At the Russian checkpoint in Vasylivka, the occupiers demand from people who want to leave the occupied regions of southern Ukraine, from 100 to 500 dollars for leaving. The occupiers let civilian cars pass very slowly, and therefore people are forced to wait under the scorching sun, because of which some even die in line. Currently, according to Fedorov, there are 1,200 cars waiting in three separate queues at the checkpoint.

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a one-hour-and-a-half telephone conversation with the President of France Emmanuel Macron. The Presidents of Ukraine and France agreed to coordinate further actions on the provision of security assistance to Ukraine by partners.The important issue of macro-financial support of Ukraine and the important role of the French Republic in this process were discussed.

As of August 1, Latvia suspended the simplified travel regime for residents of Russia’s border regions. The relevant decision was made by the Latvian government in mid-July. In connection with Russia’s decision to close the Latvian consulate in Pskov, issuing border permits is no longer possible, as it was the only diplomatic and consular representation of Latvia abroad that issued such permits to citizens of the Russian Federation.

Russian forces held a false flag attack on Olenivka penal colony, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were held and accused Ukraine’s Armed Forces for the shelling. Russian invaders showed a video of a burnt-out barracks in a colony in Olenivka, where at least 53 Ukrainian soldiers were killed, including Azov fighters, and more than 100 injured. Ukraine’s Armed Forces denied responsibility, saying deliberate shelling of the penal colony aimed reportedly to hide the mistreatment of those held. Series of reports indicate that the colony was blown up by mercenaries from Russian private military company ‘Wagner Group’. No one from the penal colony staff was injured or killed.

‘Good morning’ in Ukraine started today around 4am when the air raid alarms went off. At least 20 missiles were launched this morning from three different directions – Belarus, Russia, and the Black Sea. Numerous missile attacks were recorded in 5 regions this morning – in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Mykolayiv regions. In the Kyiv region, the infrastructure has been destroyed. In the Kharkiv region, the Russian occupiers launched rocket attacks on the Nemyshlyansky and Kyiv districts of Kharkiv.

European Union countries are bracing for further cuts in Russian gas supply. On Tuesday, European Union Energy Ministers approved a weakened emergency plan to curb demand, after striking compromise deals to limit reductions for some countries – reported by Reuters. According to the deal, Cyprus, Malta, and Ireland will not be required to save gas as long as they are not directly connected to another member state’s gas network. Also the proposal envisages for all EU countries to voluntarily cut gas use by 15% in the August-March period from the average from 2017-2021.
