Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a virtual address at COP27 with a main message that there can be no effective climate policy without peace on earth. He underlined that the Russian war brought energy and food crises to dozens of countries, which in a way hit those countries suffering from the existing manifestations of climate change, said Zelenskyy. In addition, he called the attending parties to support Ukraine’s initiative of creation of a global platform to assess the Impact of military actions on climate and environment.

For the first time, Iran acknowledged sending drones to Russia, insisting the transfer came before Moscow’s war on Ukraine that has seen the Iranian-made drones divebombing Kyiv. However, The US has rejected Iran’s justification for supplying Russia with drones only before the start of a full-scale war. ‘They transferred dozens just this summer and have military personnel in occupied Ukraine helping Russia use them against Ukrainian civilians,’ stated US Envoy for Iran, Robert Malley.

On October 25, the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier made his first visit to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion, after canceling his trip last week due to security concerns. Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Kyiv and Koriukivka, Chernihiv region, where the largest and most brutal Nazi punitive operation took place during the Second World War.

On the morning of October 22, Russian forces launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine. Missiles hit mainly energy infrastructure facilities. As a result of the attack, 1 451 603 Ukrainians were cut off from electricity in various regions. Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, stated that Russia is trying to provoke new waves of refugees to Europe by attacking the critical infrastructure of Ukraine.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reported that since October 10, 30% of Ukraine’s power stations have been damaged, causing massive blackouts across the country. As a result of the attack on the energy sector of Ukraine on October 17, hundreds of settlements were cut off from electricity. Therefore, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal called on Ukrainians to use electricity sparingly in order to stabilize the energy system.
